Media Studies

The media, in a diversity of forms, play an increasingly important role in our lives. Today, more than ever before, we have available to us an ever-increasing range of messages and images, whether it be for information or for entertainment.

The GCSE course in Media Studies is designed to encourage students to be more critically aware of the information with which they are presented on a daily basis, by newspapers, magazines, television, film and radio.

The course will look at the way in which words, images and moving pictures are used to create messages, and will select specific examples for detailed analysis.

This could, for example, include looking at the way in which advertisements are produced, and why particular combinations of sound, colour and images are used to produce a message, and targeted at a specific audience. Other areas which could be selected might include looking at the production of news, films, magazines etc.
